a heart icon

Have you ever felt that you had done everything, but your life is still empty? If you have, you probably lack the balance in life. This concept is indeed a difficult thing to understand, even for many professionals. We are often overwhelmed by the needs to advance our career or achieving other personal goals. Consequently, you have everything (a successful career, a harmonious family life, an active gym membership, and eight hours of sleep), yet stress, insecurity, guilt, and remorse still linger in your heart. In the long term, those motions can ruin you for sure!

Mapping Your Activities

You should start by adjusting yourself to identify the things you want to focus on. You can use charts to provide a fantastic visual representation of where you are now and where you want to be. It should also contain the allocation of how much energy and time for each goal.

Next, you should calculate in percentage. For example, if you spend 10% of your time exercising, you will set “10” as your energy allocation for that activity. You can also enter activities that you want to put into your life. If you want to start meditating, for example, set “0” because now you spend 0% of your energy on meditation.

Now, make a map about how you want to spend your time. By visualizing and charting your activities, you can be more respectful and responsible for your goals. Having a chart of your current and future life will show the harmony of life as you desire.

Evaluating Your Limits

Maybe you realize how difficult it is to do office work at home. This affects your mood and energy. You better set limits. Working from home during an emergency is acceptable, but don’t make it a habit.

Furthermore, evaluating how to change your schedule strategically. Say, for example, that you are currently washing clothes after your children go to bed. Can you wash clothes when they do homework and use the time they sleep to pamper yourself with yoga sessions at home or take a comfortable shower? Of course, routines do have a powerful urge. Determine to leave habits and have a flexible perspective.

Also, you should think twice before answering phone calls or replying to work-related emails when at home. However, you need to understand that you can respond to the message later in your working hours. If necessary, you can set your phone to be in the silent mode. You must avoid checking it before going to sleep, or you will reduce the quality of your rest.

Contributing to Your Surrounding

Humans cannot live alone, and we all need each other to live well. Starting from the time of birth, humans need other people around them. The older a person is the more social interactions he/she needs to make to maintain his/her cognitive abilities. Many studies have shown that being alone, socially isolated, has the same adverse effects compared to smoking, unhealthy food, obesity.

Research on tribes with a large population of over 100 years, also known as the centenarians, such as the Hunza in Pakistan, Okinawa in Japan, Vilcabamba in the mountains of Equador, and Abkhasia in the Caucasus, shows that relationships and strong social ties occur not only in large families but also among the neighbors and the broader communities.
